Why we favour natural fibres

At Capsule, we lean toward natural materials, organic cotton in particular, wherever the garment allows it. Organic cotton is grown without the heavy pesticide and fertiliser use that conventional cotton farming relies on. The result is a cleaner fibre, and a process that's easier on the people and land involved in making it.

But the decision isn't only about sustainability. Natural fibres behave better over time. They breathe. They soften rather than pill. They take a crease and drop it again, wear after wear, in a way synthetic blends rarely manage.

What this looks like in the Trench

The Capsule Original Trench is 100% heavyweight cotton, chosen for exactly this reason. It's built to be worn for decades, not seasons: a coat that gets better with wear rather than worse, and still looks right in year ten.

That's a slower, more expensive way to make clothing than most of the industry chooses. We think it's the only way worth choosing, and it's the same thinking behind why Capsule exists at all.

Quality you can't always see

Some of what makes a piece well made is invisible until you've owned it a while: the weight of a lining, the strength of a seam under repeated movement, a button that's still there after a hundred washes. We obsess over these details because they're what separate a garment worn for a decade from one worn for a season.

Choosing organic, natural materials is the first decision in that process. Everything else, cut, construction, finish, follows from it.
